It’s no surprise that the UK has gotten bigger, not just in population but weight as well. The NHS has been put under pressure, but most dangerously, pressure on one’s life (Formulate Health, 2021).

To start off, it’s been recorded that 63% of the UK’s adults are obese and/ or overweight, and 1 million people were taken to hospital in relation to obesity in 2020 (Formulate Health).

n a statistics briefing paper by Carl Baker (2021), there are numbers that show the clear increase in gaining weight and obesity, but also reveals factors such as age, race, income, and disability.

Figure 1 shows us in 2018, the normal, over weight and obese percentages within age groups, and that obesity and being overweight are more prevalent amongst those who are between 45–74 years old. 40% are more overweight around their 45s to 54s, but 36% are more obese around their 65s to 74s. Figure 2 shows that while, yes, the stats of men and women being obese and overweight are almost similar, but it’s males that are more likely to be to this. Figure 3 shows that while obesity increased by 15% 1995, it rose to 28% by 2019. Figure 4 displays other factors, such as people who are black and white being the most likely to gain weight, as well as those who lack in qualifications, are disabled, and are move deprived.

On the subject of those being more deprived, those who are amongst that category are twice as likely to suffer from obesity, and 3 times more likely to be admitted to a hospital due to obesity, than those who are less deprived than them (Formulate Health, 2021).
